THE STORY SO FAR
One day I went down to my local computer shop and saw on the shelf a
box "Red Hat Linux 5.2" I had some money left over from Christmas so I
thought I would buy it to see what all the fuss was about.
It took me a weekend to get it working nobody else in my family can
even use Windows 95 properly so I had to set up a dual booting PC (that's
not easy with only a 1gb HD.) I used a neat freeware program called FIPS
to split my hard drive into 2 then I formatted the second as 400mb Linux
Native and 20mb Linux Swap, after 3 or 4 attempts I managed to install
the right software and I was up and running. OK so it wasn't exactly a
smooth installation and FIPS damaged my Windows hard drive which I had
to backup onto 3 (1.44mb) floppy disks then format and reinstall Windows
95 but now my computer happily runs Win 95 and Linux (But Windows 95 thinks
my Linux Hard disk is a second CD-ROM drive with a bad CD in it and I still
can't get my DUN internet connection working under Linux (if anyone can
help me with either problem I would be forever in your debt : email - [email protected]).)
After my 2 day ordeal I became quite familiar with Linux and decided to
set up this web page to help anybody else trying to install Linux and Windows
on the same machine or anyone installing just Linux or even anyone interested
in Linux.
